    Cost Estimator - Full-Time

Reports to: Vice President of Sales and Business Development

Department: Sales / Business Development


Responsible for developing detailed labor, material and system cost estimates by using drawings, specifications, sub-supplier pricing, tooling requirements and various other cost driver documents and data. They will also help develop pricing for new development projects. They will also support customer cost recovery on pricing, quality, delivery, tooling and prototypes. They are also responsible to support budget planning and help track, analyze and assess costs.


  • Facilitate the quoting process per the supplied RFQ and coordinate all quote activity
  • Establish/continually improve robust internal process and documentation for quoting
  • Help develop costing standards/best-in-class cost structure that can be used to improve efficiency within the business pursuit process and review them on a quarterly basis
  • Review drawings, specifications and other product related information
  • Obtain or develop material, labor, overhead, packaging, logistics, tooling, capital and all other related cost estimates
  • Be able to analyze and explain cost changes to all relevant stakeholders
  • Maintain traceability of information to defend estimates and drive accountability through the organization
  • Identify tooling and capital capacity
  • Highlight any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quote process
  • Support strategic analysis and business pursuit activities through the analysis and development of product costs
  • Estimate jobs with accuracy, speed and efficiency
  • Customer cost recovery (past due, delivery or quality)
  • Support annual budgeting process and periodic budget updates
  • Analyze the impact of various strategies (i.e. footprint, make vs. buy, changes in equipment, etc)
  • Understand and abide by Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality policies and procedures
  • Adhere to the Company mission, policies and procedures, and State and Federal regulations
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, manufacturing or related discipline, or relevant work experience
  • 3-5 years’ experience in automotive or manufacturing industry
  • Prior cost estimating experience in automotive required
  • Process engineering or related experience preferred
  • Understand the manufacturing process and plant operations
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Strong verbal and written communication skill
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain and work with confidential information
  • Strong negotiation and problem resolution skills
  • Proficiency in related computer software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
