    Purchasing Manager - Full-Time

SUMMARY/SCOPE:
  • This position is responsible for managing all the purchasing activities.
  • The Purchasing Manager is responsible for maintaining effective and cost-efficient purchasing systems as well as positive supplier relationships while ensuring consistent quality of product at economical prices and that product is readily available for production needs.
  • The Purchasing Manager will summarize and report progress and/or roadblocks to management and will also be responsible for special projects such as supplier resourcing, troubled supplier management and supply base optimization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Proactively monitor the existing supply base to ensure they remain and evolve into market leaders in quality, cost, delivery, and technology offerings Assess, manage, and mitigate risks related to supply base
  • Maintain productive working relationships with both suppliers and internal departments to ensure the procurement and development of raw materials proceeds smoothly
  • Display a high level of internal customer service to support the growth and profitability of the company
  • Review material reports to determine job needs and analyze purchasing requirements against stocking levels
  • Works with production supervisors to ensure that all raw materials are available to meet schedules
  • Assess suppliers capabilities on quality, delivery and commercial capability
  • Generate, distribute, follow up and analyze Request for Quotes
  • Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness
  • Issue purchase orders and maintain/update blanket purchase orders for price changes
  • Work with Finance Group to resolve supplier pricing discrepancies
  • Manage supplier launch readiness
  • Understanding of automotive regulations and vendor requirements.Manage special projects including troubled supplier analysis and improvement plans and supplier resourcing
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Discuss direct reports’ performance regularly, teaching and coaching where appropriate
  • Complete formal associate evaluations once per year for each direct report
  • Serve as a resource for direct reports. Communicate company policy, decisions, and change positively and directly.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5-7 years of experience in Supply Chain or related field, preferably in defense, manufacturing or related industry
  • A master’s degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration from an accredited college or university is preferred, but will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, Program Management or related field.
  • Experience with both Canadian and United States companies; International experience preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency Microsoft Office and computer skills.
  • Strong understanding of supplier negotiation process
  • Strong understanding of quality requirements and knowledge to evaluate supplier's ability to meet quality requirements
  • Understanding and ability to perform business, cost/benefit and financial analysis
  • Basic understanding of technical change process;
  • Sound judgment and decisiveness
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication and listening skills; ability to communicate professionally with people within all levels of the organization and external contacts
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation; the ability to handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve conflicts
  • Experience in managing role required with a demonstrated ability to gain consensus in a cross functional team atmosphere;
