    Advanced Purchasing Buyer - Full Time

Reports to: Vice President Corporate Supply Chain Management

  • Reporting to the Vice President Corporate Supply Chain Management, this position is responsible for advanced purchasing activities. Primary responsibility is to quote, review and source components for new programs to supply base in cooperation with buyers, technical and operations staff. Lead cross-functional teams to identify and drive programs to implementation. Summarize and report progress and/or roadblocks to management. Also responsible for special projects such a supplier resourcing, troubled supplier management and supply base optimization.
  • Identify potential global suppliers for both new and existing commodities
  • Assess suppliers capabilities on quality, delivery and commercial capability
  • Generate, distribute, follow up and analyze Request for Quotes
  • Make sourcing recommendations
  • Manage supplier launch readiness
  • Understand government regulations, flow down requirements, and restrictions such as ITAR
  • Construct a best-in-class cost and quality supply base utilizing all available tools, resources, best practices, and innovative approaches to the business
  • Proactively monitor the existing supply base to ensure they remain and evolve into market leaders in quality, cost, delivery, and technology offerings
  • Display a high level of internal customer service to support the growth and profitability of the company
  • Lead commercial supplier negotiations and issues resolution
  • Be a supplier advocate when required
  • Ensure 100% on-time sourcing at approved program cost targets for every program
  • Manage special projects including troubled supplier analysis and improvement plans and supplier resourcing
  • Other duties as assigned
  • 5-7 years of experience in Supply Chain or related field, preferably in defense, manufacturing or related industry
  • A masters degree in Supply Chain Management or Business Administration from an accredited college or university is preferred, but will accept a Bachelors degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, Program Management or related field.
  • Ability to speak French is not a requirement but is preferred
  • Travel approximately 50% of the time
  • Experience with both Canadian and United States companies; International experience preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency Microsoft Office and computer skills. Knowledge of QAD a plus.
  • Strong understanding of supplier negotiation process
  • Strong understanding of quality requirements and knowledge to evaluate supplier's ability to meet quality requirements
  • Understanding and ability to perform business, cost/benefit and financial analysis
  • Basic understanding of technical change process;
  • Sound judgment and decisiveness
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication and listening skills; ability to communicate professionally with people within all levels of the organization and external contacts
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation; the ability to handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve conflicts
  • Experience in managing role required with a demonstrated ability to gain consensus in a cross functional team atmosphere
  • Required frequently: sitting, pulling, pushing, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching
  • Use of fingers for computer keyboard typing
  • Lift up to 50lbs
